Big Jobs Need Bigger Trailers:What We Move with Our Lowboy

Built for the Big Stuff

In our line of work, we see a wide range of heavy-duty transport requests. From job sites in downtown Detroit to military bases and rural farms, we’ve had the opportunity to move some serious machinery using one of our favorite tools: the lowboy trailer. If you’ve ever wondered what a lowboy does—or what it can transport—you’re not alone. Detroit heavy equipment towing isn’t just about brute force. It’s about the right match between machine and mission.

What is a Lowboy?

A lowboy trailer is a type of flatbed with a drop in deck height right after the gooseneck and another just before the wheels. This design gives it a much lower center of gravity and allows us to haul taller loads without exceeding height limits.

Why does this matter? Because many of the machines we transport are just too tall for standard trailers. The low deck means we can safely and legally move oversized equipment under bridges, overpasses, and highway signs without issue.

What We Can Move

Here’s a look at just some of the massive cargo our lowboy trailer can handle:

  • Construction Equipment
Bulldozers, backhoes, excavators, pavers—you name it. A CAT 336 excavator doesn’t exactly fit on a pickup trailer, and we’ve moved dozens of them. Construction sites rely on timely delivery of equipment, and that’s where we come in.
  • Military Vehicles
Detroit is no stranger to government contracts, and we’ve hauled everything from armored personnel carriers to Humvees. These machines are heavy and bulky, but they’re no problem for a properly loaded lowboy.
  • Agricultural Machinery
Farm equipment like combines, harvesters, and tractors often need relocation—especially during planting and harvest seasons. These machines are wide and top-heavy, but our Detroit heavy equipment towing service handles them with care.
  • Industrial Machines
Some of the hardest jobs involve equipment that isn’t meant to move at all. Massive presses, generators, and tanks used in industrial manufacturing often require lowboys for transport due to their unusual shapes and intense weight.
  • Oversized Loads
Sometimes the job doesn’t fit into neat categories. If it’s long, tall, wide, or heavy, and it doesn’t belong on public roads without permits, odds are it’s a job for our lowboy.

How We Do It

We plan every transport with careful measurements, route approvals, and safety checks. Our team coordinates loading with cranes or drive-on methods depending on what we’re hauling. Securement is key—we use multiple anchor points, chains, and sometimes tarping systems to ensure cargo stays in place and protected.

When hauling something like a military truck or a massive front-end loader, you can’t just wing it. We evaluate load distribution, tire pressure, and axle weight. We work with state agencies to secure permits for oversized loads and comply with every regulation from start to finish.

When to Call Us

Detroit heavy equipment towing isn’t just about moving things from point A to B—it’s about doing it right. Here are a few situations where our lowboy trailer might be the best fit:

  • Moving equipment from one construction site to another
  • Transporting military vehicles for base relocation or repairs
  • Hauling agricultural machines during seasonal changes
  • Relocating industrial assets during plant shutdowns
  • Delivering oversized auction purchases or rental machinery
